Music
- Music is my greatest passion, and I'm honored to be able to write about it. I've been an entertainment writer for major daily newspapers (Sacramento Union, Sacramento Bee) and editor-in-chief of a NY-based educational music magazine (MUSIC ALIVE!). For Sacramento magazine, I covered music and the arts for nearly 20 years until the publication closed in summer 2023. In recent years, I have also been interviewing Austin-based musicians to gather material for a possible book.

I've had many peak experiences as a music journalist, including interviewing such legends as Paul McCartney, Burt Bacharach and Roger Smith (Tower of Power keyboardist), first row. At bottom left is blues singer/pianist Katie Knipp, one of five musicians I interviewed for Sacramento magazine (Sept. 2020 issue) about the challenges of keeping the music going during the COVID-19 lockdown. "Exploring the Blues," featuring two chapters I contributed, is an educational music book for middle- and high-school students. The "Masters of Rhythm" article (MUSIC ALIVE! magazine) pays tribute to some of the greatest rhythm sections in music history.
